Disney, The Mouse Betrayed, Greed, Corruption, and Children at Risk by Peter and Rochelle Scheizer

Disney, The Mouse Betrayed, Greed, Corruption, and Children at Risk by Peter and Rochelle Schweizer,  374 pages

If you are a die hard Disney fan, I would definitely not read this book. This book is an attempt to expose the real Disney, behind the face of the happiest place on earth.  The authors interview former employees about unsafe ride practices and unreported accidents.  Disney World is basically it's own city and can make it's own rules.  Like many corporations, it is not perfect.  It is a business after all.  The authors write a few disturbing chapters on pedophiles and porn.  In today's society, it's not as totally shocking as it should be.  After all, look at what is going on with Sesame Street's Elmo.  Yes, it is disturbing, but is it true?  The author's do provide about 100 pages of police reports and other documentation to support their claims.  This book was written in 1998, so I am hoping a lot has changed since then.  Disney did fire the employee in question.

The book also goes into Disney's questionable ways of coming up with animated movie ideas.  For instance, stealing the Lion King idea from a deceased Japanese creator.  Take this book for what it is.  It is what it is.  I love Disney, but not this book.  But if you enjoy bashing Disney, the corporate giant, this book is for you!
