When the Wind Blows by James Patterson

When The Wind Blows by James Patterson, 416 pages

This is an older novel I randomly pulled off the shelf and found it a pretty good read.  Frannie O'Neill is a veterinarian living in rural Colorado who finds herself a recent widow when her husband is mysteriously murdered. When Kit Harrison (a FBI agent on vacation) appears to rent her cottage, the mysterious past of Frannie's husband soon unfolds.  Kit and Frannie soon discover Max, a young mutated girl who flies, and other children with mutations.  What unfolds are experiments, involving children, gone wrong. I believe this was the inspiration for the teen series Maximum Ride.
